Hello,
I've installed AM10 beta 2 on a Win7 64bit service pack 1 machine but every time it tries to connect to the localhost it pops up with a connection timed out error.

I had the original beta installed but I uninstalled it before installing beta 2. I've tried uninstalling, restarting and then re-installing as administrator, but it's still the same.

Any ideas please?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Outside of installing Beta 2, were there other steps taken such as a restoration of tasks from a previous version?

Hi Leonard,

No, just unistalling the original beta and installing beta 2, along with a couple of restarts.

Hi Aaron,

Please check your Windows event logs and provide any references to AM10 that might be in there. Also, please delete the following registry key and then restart the AutoMate 10 service:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Network Automation\AutoMate 10

This will reset the global settings for AutoMate.

Hi,

Deleting the registry key didn't make a difference.

Here are the last few event logs related to AM10.

Warning: Get http time:Unable to connect to the remote server

Hi,

I think I've got to the bottom of it....

When I had the original beta installed I was testing File Trigger tasks, some which worked and some which didn't and were failing. I noticed another reference to this in the windows event logs so I uninstalled AM10 made a backup of "C:\ProgramData\Network Automation\AutoMate 10" where all the task data is, removed this folder and re-installed AM10. Task Adminstrator is now loading up ok with the default sample tasks etc.

So it looks like there was some sort of conflict with the failing trigger tasks.

I will try introducing the File Trigger tasks one by one again and see if I come across any problems.

Sorry, I have just tried re-opening Task Administrator and I'm getting the same problems again.

The Automate 10 service is running and both AMTS and AMEM are running in windows task manager.

I haven't added any new tasks yet so I'm not sure what's changed?

Hi Aaron,

Did you import your task before adding the triggers (one by one)?

Hi,

No I haven't got as far as that yet. I completely uninstalled AM10 and removed the "C:\ProgramData\Network Automation\AutoMate 10" folder and started again from scratch.

It worked initially when I installed AM but then later on I tried launching Task Administrator and I am now gettiing the same error (Connection to localhost timed out) again for some reason.

I've tried restarting my machine but it doesn't make a difference.

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

As a test, please disable the Windows Firewall, or any 3rd party firewall, and then restart the AM10 service. This seems like a port conflict of some sort. Do you happen to be using an HTTP proxy on this machine? Has anything changed on this machine from uninstalling Beta 1 and installing Beta 2?

Hi,

I turned off the firewall and restarted the service but it hasn't made a difference. I did notice that when I stopped the service the system tray icon disappeared but when I started it again the icon didn't come back.

Nothing has changed since I uninstalled beta 1 and installed beta 2.

I didn't see any of these issues with beta 1, it's really strange.

I have now the same problem. It all worked fine for a longer time, but now Beta 2 has disconnected from the local host and is not able to re connect. Connection times out. I also restarted the whole system, but that did not help.

I note that in the service consol, the Automate 10 (AMTS) shows as status 'stopping'??? No possibility to either start, stop or pause the service. Strange.

Gijsberth,
this error happens as well for me because I have several BPA/AM versions installed on the system, and the hotkey is already assigned to an older version.
But I don't think this can prevent by itself the application to work. It just prevents the hotkey to work for v10.
For the service stuck as "stopping", you know it can/must be killed in the Windows task manager.

I got AM 10 working again.

I deleted the registry part for the taskservice of AM 10 and then restarted the computer.

Jean,
I killed it several times in the task manager, but then it restarted itself again and 'hang' as stopping.

Anyway, it works fine again after deleting part of the registry (see other post)

Hi Gijsberth/Aaron,

Did you happen to toggle "Task Triggering" at all?

Ricardo,
When I had the issue, I right clicked the icon and all the pop up items worked except for the enable task triggering. That option did not work.

Hi Ricardo,

Yes I did. When I was trying differenct things I turned it off and then couldn't turn it back on again without a restart.

Hi Aaron,

You will need to edit the registry (Triggers Enabled) to get you up and running. You will need to complete the following;
1. Stop the AutoMate 10 service
2. Open Regedit
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Network Automation > AutoMate 10 > TaskService.
4. Scroll down until you see an entry called TriggersEnabled. Open this and modify the value to 1 (on)
5. Start the AutoMate Service

Let us know if that works for you.

There is a known issue (D#5231) in our database that occurs when you toggle Task Triggering.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

I considered starting a new thread but since many of the issues are the same I thought it best to tie into this thread. I have install am10b2 onto a win7 64 sp1 the machine has am9 on it currently functioning fine. I have had am10b1 on it but part way into testing it also got the error each time I started up administrator that it couldn't connect to local host the same as I see with b2. I have deleted registry key deleted the directories as suggested stop and restarted as well as rebooted the computer each having no success. Not sure what to try next... I hope it can be figured out so I can further test the version.

Thanks for any further insight.

Hi,

There is one error and a couple of warnings...

Error: Could not register Ctrl+Alt+End as hotkey.
Warning: Get tcp time:A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 64.90.182.55:13
Warning: Get http time:Unable to connect to the remote server

Tried this morning to uninstall am10b2... deleted registry for am10 and automate 10 directory under program data, then reinstalling. It still happens. I rechecked the httpport and tcp port and they are correct for am10. The above errors are what I get in application log.

Thanks for any insight.

Hello Jeff,

Are you installing AutoMate v10.33 on a workstation where another copy of AutoMate is already installed?

Hi Jeff,

Side by side installations are supported and should function properly. The error messages are similar to that of a port conflict. I'am assuming you had Beta 1 installed on this same machine with no problems correct?

Yes for a period of time both 9 and 10 were installed and working on same machine. Then sometime during beta 1 it failed and I've been working a few different things every so often to get it to work again but have been unsuccessful in my efforts.

Thanks for any guidance/insight to assist.

Hi Jeff,

Can you please confirm that you tried the following;

"You will need to edit the registry (Triggers Enabled) to get you up and running. You will need to complete the following;
Open this and modify the value to 1 (on)
5. Start the AutoMate Service "

It's good to start at the beginning...

Triggers were enabled already but I went through the steps you suggested. After restarting service it still could not contact local host.

Taking an extra step I rebooted the computer. It still fails. "Connection to local host timed out."

I verified that I have no windows firewall enabled. I do have Sophos firewall enabled but nothing has been blocked today. HTTPPort 10011 TCPPort 10010 LegacyTCPPort 7999

Other thoughts?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Would it be possible to try again without the reboot? I was able to successfully get AutoMate up and running with the instructions above.

I can and will let you know but I don't expect a change since after I did above steps I tried to get in and it failed with message ... that's when I tried rebooting and failed additionally.

In a few minutes I will report back.

Repeated the steps as prescribed above but then going into task administrator I receive the error, "There was no AutoMate Task Service responding at 'localhost' and "Connection to localhost timed out".

Thanks for your continued help.

Hi Jeff,

Would it be possible to disable Sophos or install beta2 on a test machine that does not have Sophos on it?

I have another computer that has an expired version of am10b1. On that machine I disabled Sophos, uninstalled 10b1 and installed 10b2... has same issue.

On machine I've been working with I verified I have disabled Sophos tried am10b2 it failed. Next I uninstalled 10b2, 9.0.4.5 and reinstalled 10b2... it still fails.

Is this a rights issue? I install with admin privileges but who knows about the service or the event monitor.

Hi Jeff,

The install does require Admin rights.

Do you have any new or different errors in the Windows Event Viewer?

No new errors in event viewer...

Just similar as past:

Warning: Get http time:Unable to connect to the remote server

Warning: Get tcp time:A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 64.90.182.55:13

error: Could not register Ctrl+Alt+End as hotkey.

One thing odd in poking around in event viewer.

Information message: Service is bound to: http://0.0.0.0:10011/AMTS
Information message: Service is bound to: net.tcp://0.0.0.0:10010/AMTS

Is this correct for ip address?

Probably so since 9 seems to be the same 0.0.0.0 address

Hi Jeff,

If the IP address is 0.0.0.0, the server accepts TCP/IP connections on all server host IPv4 interfaces. This ensures that AutoMate will function on any of the network adapters that your machine may be connecting to the network through. Are you running a localized version of Windows?

I may not understand the question completely but will try to answer as best I can.

The corporation takes the basic windows 7 software from MS and does make some configuration changes associated with making the o/s more secure. There are occasions when we work with vendors to try to resolve issues but 99% of software works fine in environment. Most issues we work have to do with compatibility of certain versions with chosen standards such as corporate standards of browser and such. Does that help?

Is there a more in depth log to see the issues when connecting to localhost?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

It didn't attach. Please try again. Also, you mentioned another version of AutoMate installed on the machine, is this still correct? If so, please stop all AutoMate services and only start the AM10 service and let me know if the problem persists.

Did it attach this time?

I stopped both 9 & 10 services successfully. Then I restarted 10's service. Then started 10 task administrator and received error Connection to localhost timed out.

Jeff,

Please run the following from a command prompt:

netstat -aon | find ":162"

You should get something similar to the following:

UDP 0.0.0.0:162 *:* 2504

2504 is the PID of the process that is using port 162. Please let me know if you do get a result and what process it associated with.

7472 belongs to AMTS.exe - Automate 10 Task Service

Hi Jeff,

Well that was definitely NOT the answer I was looking for. Please run the same command line again except replace ":162" with ":10010" and then with ":10011" and let me know the processes for those 2 ports.

Just curious if the ports from information provide are mapping appropriately? From what I gather with am9 they seem to be ... but maybe you see differently?

Hi Jeff,

Everything looks as it should. Please restart your task service one more time and verify that Task Administrator is unable to connect. If that is still the case, please open the Windows Task Manager and right click on the AMTS.exe process and click on Create Dump File. We will need to review the file to determine the issue.

Leonard,
I happened again to my installation. AM10 got 'disabled' and no way to enable. The connection with the local host is lost. The only way to solve it, is to stop the AM and TS, next delete the registry key for AM10 and than restart the machine.

I exported the registry key before deleting, but I'm not sure if this helps the investigation. See attached)

Weird must have missed this message. How best can I provide this file considering that last email was too large. If I can get instructions on producing dump file then we can do as last time and I can get files to you from off network computer.

Thanks,

The dump file you sent over is from the Event Monitor. We will need the dump file from Task Service.

Can you provide that file?
