Another conversion issue I discovered this morning......when executing a particular workflow I had just converted to v11 I was immediately getting an error in the Output pane:

Workflow '<workflowName>' failed because: Problem initializing the variable engine.

I only have 1 workflow variable on this one, and it is a Varible Type: Number with no default value. Neither of the two options on the Advanced tab of the workflow variable is selected.

I changed the Variable Type to Auto and I no longer got the error.

Is this a possible bug? I did not have this issue in v10.

Hello,

What version 10 were you running? Would it be possible to share the workflow in question? If you do not feel comfortable posting the task on the forum please email it in to AutoMate.Support@helpsystems.com.

We were running 10.7.0.3.

I could probaby modify the workflow enough to share, but I found the issue easy enough to recreate.

I created a workflow with a single task. The task does nothing more than assign a value to the shared variable.

With it set as either Auto or Text, the workflow runs. When set to Number, it will generate the error.

I think I have an idea on this one. I realized I have another workflow with a similar setup. I compared the difference between the 2 shared variables and they both were defined as Type: Number.

However, the one that was failing with the error did not have an initial value assigned. The one that does work has an initial value of 0.

Hello James,

Did adding the value or removing the value change the outcome of the workflow?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking?

At the time, I simply changed the variable type to Auto which alleviated the issue and moved on.

When the shared variable was defined as a Number, the workflow failed immediately upon running with the error. I suspect this because it could not convert an empty string / Null value to Numeric.

I realized this later when I was working with another workflow with a similar setup. The shared variable on that workflow was also defined as a Number type, but it had an initial default numeric value; it did not fail upon starting the workflow.

You're welcome - thanks for the follow-up. I finished converting all of our v10 workflows/tasks last week to v11.
