We are running Automate 7.1.2.0.  We have a task, which when executed directly from the console, works successfully.  The task:

·         loads an Excel file

·         open SQL connection

·         runs stored procedure

·         places raw data into excel

·         executes Excel macro VIA KEYBOARD SHORTCUT to format data

·         resaves the excel file

·         emails the excel file

Again, the task runs flawlessly when in console mode (in about 8 minutes).  When the task is automated (scheduled), it runs in under 3 minutes, claims success, and no data updates are performed.  The emailed file is the same as the original.  We are at a loss as to what is (not) happening.  Any suggestions?

William,

What are the logon properties for the task?

Thanks for your inquiry.

Initially, logon properties were inherited.  Now they are set as follows:

When workstation is logged on: logged on user

When workstation is logged off: logon specified user

When workstation is locked: run as current user

Specified user is default user account

Highest privileges is NOT checked.

When you say running from the console, do you mean running from within Task Builder as opposed to Task Administrator?

The task and workflow execute successfully in either mode when started manually - either by running the workflow or executing the task.   When the task is scheduled, however, the process claims success, but does not update the Excel file.

When the schedule activates, is the agent station logged in?

hi
I have exactly the same problem. When I run the task as loged on user Excel starts, but I need to run the task in Loged off mode. How can I setup the server (agent) to be able run this task as non interactive? BPA Server version is 7.1.3.
/ Ivar

Hi Ivar,

Unfortunately, you cannot run the Excel actions in the background. You need to have the workstation logged on in order for the actions to function properly.
