We are having workflow/task executing scheduled every 60 seconds . In 24 hour we are having up to 11 workflow/task that are not ended and are stilling hanging in the Execution Status windows.Time between haning workflow/task is random. No error or warning in eventview.

This is a problem since the maximum amount of running workflow/task are exceeded in short time.

If I look under Report -> Execute Event Table hanging workflow/task are not logged in the report.

We are running BPA Server 7.1.3.0 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 VMvare instance.

Hi Kaare,

Do the workflows/tasks contain SQL Query actions? If so, please use Open and Close SQL Connection actions before and after the SQL Query and reference the session.

Have change all task with SQL to use session. This solution is working, but do not solve the problem completely. There are still many workflows that are hanging.

It seems like when to or more workflow are trigging at the same time, BPA is not able to detect that a workflow has started or not able to exit correctly.

Almost all workflow are triggered by scheduling.

Hello Kaare,

I myself dabbled in 7.1.3 (still on 7.1.2 for a long story set of reasons, but I digress), and we experienced something similar.

We have set up our system to have a specific workflow trigger every 30 seconds or 40 seconds. However, we noticed that with enough running workflow/task executions that they would consume so much system resources that the system would never be able to catch up and resolve them all.

We have mitigated these issues by making our workflow only able to execute one concurrently, and that seems to fix a lot (but we still have to restart every once in a while).

I am unsure if this will work for you, but I figured I could chime in with what we are doing.

I'm having the same problem with a task.  I use the open and close sql statements.  connection string is Provider=IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1;Password=%Password%;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=%User%;Data Source=DB2P;Location=sysg.blah-blah.net:1106;Extended Properties=""

It runs to completion but then thinks it's still running.  I've tried all sorts of things but you can't kill it with anything.  If anyone knows how to fix this please respond.  Thanks!

Are you using a Stored Procedure or SQL Query? What version of BPA7 are you running?

Hi Ronda,

The first thing I would suggest that you do is upgrade to the latest version of BPA Server 7 version 7.1.3. You can login to your account page at www.networkautomation.com to obtain the .exe for version 7.1.3. Once you have upgraded test your issue again and let us know if the issue persists.
