I have a server that I remote into (it's far away) and an agent machine that are getting this error. When I restart the server and open Task Manager, there is no BPAEM.exe running. Even if I run BPAEM.exe manually to get it going it doesn't alleviate the error. Which brings up my other question, does BPAEM.exe have to be running on the agent, the server, or both. Any help appreciated!

Hi Ronda,
When you login to the server after rebooting are there any other users logged into the Machine (remotely or on the console itself)? When you open Windows Task Manager what session is BPAEM.exe running on?

Ronda,
supplementing Ricardo's reply, BPAEM is sort of a slave of the agent service. When an agent starts (as a service, local or remote), it launches a BPAEM process. BPAEM is the process that displays the BPA icon in the system tray. While the Agent service runs as a "system" task, BPAEM runs as a user task, and this may cause problems if a given task is run under a different user vs the one that runs BPAEM. I think Ricardo will make it more clear.

Hi Ronda,
Based on the error message you are receiving, I do not believe you will find bpaem.exe running in any given session as you have already discovered. Also, as Jean stated, bpaem.exe needs to be started from the amts.exe service. If the service was unable to start the bpaem.exe process, then you starting it manually will not correct the issue because there is not linkage between amts.exe and bpaem.exe. Are there any error messages referencing BPA in the Windows Event Viewer? What version of Windows are you running?
