I have a task in Automate 6 that performs some file cleanup on a backup system.  I would like this task to find out the free space on the drive before any actions are taken, and then again once the task is complete, and include this in a log the task generates.  This way I can see the before and after free space information for the remote drive.  My problem is that automate has no built in mechanism for finding drive space information for a remote machine.  It works fine for local drives, but the server I'm working with does not have automate installed locally.

I was thinking if I could find an external way to generate the drive freespace at the start of the task, and write that information to a file, then read the file into a variable in Automate, that would accomplish my needs.  I could then do the same thing at the end of the task, just use an external method to generate free space at the end of the task and include that info in my log, showing free space before and after work was done.

Any suggestions on this, something external, could be VB could be batch script, anything.  Open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Are we any closer to a satisfactory solution after nine years?

Version 10 has the ability to populate a dataset with volume information which includes total available space.
