Having problems with BPA 8 running Excel 2007 as a background user.

When I run a task that accesses an XLSX as the user I am logged in with the task works great but when running the task using a different account (running in the background), the task cannot open the file and all other users logged into the server get an error dialog stating "There was a problem sending the command to the program" when they try to access ANY XLSX file.

Nothing is contained within the event log and I have tried every potential fix that I can find online.

This link covers most of them (none of which have resolved my problem):

Has anyone else encountered this issue and, if so, how did you get around it?

OS: Win 2008 Server R2
BPA Version: 8.0.9 (I think)

Hello Jason,

Excel tasks are considered interactive tasks and unfortunately all/any interactive tasks cannot run in the background. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please let us know if you have any more questions or concerns.

I never considered that. The "Workbook is NOT visible" checkbox within the action properties led me to believe that it didn't fall into the "interactive" category.

...so much for that idea.

Thanks Alex for the info and the prompt response.
