I would use Input:Send Keystrokes to do this and send the keys {ALT}nf and then type the filename and press {ENTER}. This may eliminate your need for pauses however, the solution would not operate in the background. Currently there is no feature built-in to AutoMate to attach a file to a OneNote note with OneNote running the background. It may be possible to perform this action in the background using the AutoMate BASIC scripting action and the OneNote API. Documentation on the OneNote API is located here:

I have already figured out how to insert PDFs into OneNote using basic move mouse and click here functions, but this cannot be run in the background. Is there a task function for inserting files into OneNote, or into any application for that matter?

This would also solve the problem of having to add timed pauses after a file has been inserted.
