Our IT structure is moving over to webservices within a year, the current application structures that are GUI and Terminal based will be removed. This poses an issue with Automate BPA since we're unable to use the current implementation of WebService actions and also the current lack of REST support. The issue is more specifically that defining complex types and creating objects often fails as well as the actual Webservice action fails to use the specified types. During our GoToAssist sessions we've been recommended to use the HTTP Post action with a specific XML file instead, but this is not a viable long term solution for us. Without some update to the webservice actions or a fix resolution we won't be able to use Automate BPA for automation any longer leaving us with no other option then to find a different alternative. ------------------------- Daniel Grip |

Hello Daniel/Nick,
We are planning on making further code enhancements to our HTTP and Web Service actions pertaining to REST and JSON support. What precisely those changes will be and in which build they will appear has yet to be determined. possibly v10.4 or v10.5. ------------------------- ![]() Valentineo McGowan | Technical Consultant AutoMate | Division of HelpSystems HelpSystems, LLC | T: +1 213.738.6966 | F: +1.213.738.7665 |

Hi Valentineo, I am just curious. Do you have any new information to share regarding when we will see REST API support in BPA Server?

Hello Erik,
Presently nothing as changed on our future planned support for REST and JSON functionality in AutoMate and BPA Server. We have a v10.4 build being released later this month. Unfortunately, a yet to be determined future build release will include those enhancements in 2016, they will not be present in v10.4. ------------------------- ![]() Valentineo McGowan | Technical Consultant AutoMate | Division of HelpSystems HelpSystems, LLC | T: +1 213.738.6966 | F: +1.213.738.7665 |

I think there may be some misconceptions about REST support missing from the Automate product. REST is simply a style of request over HTTP, in which Automate 10.5 contains POST, GET, PUT, DELETE, HEAD, TRACE, and OPTIONS. With that you should be able to utilize almost every REST service. What is missing, however, is the ability to quickly parse JSON data. You can handle it manually for now or wait for them to add support for it. What MIGHT be missing, is some input/output parameter support. That would depend specifically on the exact REST Service you are trying to utilize. Specifics would be needed as to the service being used in order to comment on that further. |
