Looking for a way to trim the characters following a "/" and the / itself

For example:
E Swanson/Ex

to read:
E Swanson

It would be convenient to be able to keep the same variable, so:

%RefDr% stores variable E Swanson/Ex

becomes

%RefDr% stores variable E Swanson

The text is variable in length before and after the /

Thanks for your help, James
