Hello,

We are experiencing issues whereas our local BPA agents are going offline unexpectedly. We perform most of our processing on our local agent and even after the 9.0.5 upgrade this issue continues to persist though less than it was prior to the upgrade.

We have tested BPA 10 and had issues with a date/time bug noted in the product that limits our ability at this time to upgrade.

Any insight into why the LOCAL agent might be dropping offline?

Symptoms include the following:

1. Local Agent not responsive
2. Local Agent service may be hung
3. Service may or not restart properly with one or more of the following actions:
Service doesn't kill local exe, and agent exe needs to be manually killed
Local agent may appear "offline" in management console, but can be disabled in management console.

Agent may not respond to service restart and remain in offline state, even after multiple service restarts (in this instance a restart of the Execution Server service is required)

Regards
Scott

Hello Scott,

How are you attempting to restart the Agent?
Keep in mind it is unwise to restart any of the BPA Services if any BPATask.exe's are running.

1 Close BPA 9, SMC, Workflow Designer and Task Builder if open.
2 Within Windows Services.msc, STOP these services in this order:
AutoMate BPA Server 9 Agent
AutoMate BPA Server 9 Management Server
AutoMate BPA Server 9 Execution Server
3 Within Windows Services.msc, START these services in this order:
AutoMate BPA Server 9 Execution Server
AutoMate BPA Server 9 Management Server
AutoMate BPA Server 9 Agent
4 Open BPA 9 SMC and see if you can connect to the Localhost and if the Default Agent turns BLUE in the System Tray

A breakdown of each Service and what occurs during each Start/Restart:
The 'most crucial' entries to look for when each service is started in the Windows Event Viewer (in order as they appear):

First | AutoMate BPA Server 9 Execution Server
1 Service started successfully.
2 Data Store connected
3 Service is bound to: net.tcp://0.0.0.0:9500/BPAExecutionServer/
4 Service is bound to: http://0.0.0.0:9502/BPAExecutionServer/
5 AutoMate BPA Execution Server 9 online and fully operational

Second | AutoMate BPA Server 9 Management Server
1 Service started successfully.
2 Data Store connected
3 Service is bound to: http://0.0.0.0:9503/BPAManagementServer/
4 Management Server not connected to Execution Server established. (<--- IGNORE)
5 AutoMate BPA Management Server 9 online and fully operational
6 Management Server connection to Execution Server established. (<--- LOOK FOR)

Third | AutoMate BPA Server 9 Agent
1 AutoMate BPA Agent 9 is starting...
2 AutoMate BPA Agent 9 has started.
3 Attempting to connect to AutoMate BPA Server at localhost on port 9500...
4 Connection made to AutoMate BPA Server at localhost on port 9500
5 Agent authentication of successful.

NOTE If there are any BPATask.exe's running, the Execution Server may hang and become unresponsive. Open Windows Task Manager and end process on any and all BPATask.exe's.

Hi Valentineo,

We upgraded to 9.0.5 and while occurring far less our local agent is still dropping offline.

We are trying to determine root cause for why this is occurring and how to remedy.

the following was a screenshot taken this morning when I attempted to close the Management console....I've never seen this before.

Please see attached.

thanks
Scott

Hi Scott,

Do you only have one agent connected to the server? Meaning, if there are remote agents, are they in a similar state as the local agent when the local agent is hung? Are workflows/tasks running on the local agent? What are the machine specs for the local machine?
