Yesterday night we experienced an issue with the agent, one that we've seen before and haven't been able to correlate with anything.

The machine where the agent runs shows an exception logged by "AutoMate 9"(see screenshot 1 attached), after which the agent itself logs a message saying that the connection to the Execution server was terminated unexpectedly (screenshot 2), and stays disconnected. No message stating that it will try to reconnect every 15 seconds, nor any attempts to do so.

An attempt to restart the agent service from the Services Console doesn't work, the agent gets stuck indefinitely in the "stopping" state, until we forcefully kill it via task manager.

We thought that periodically restarting the services was the only safe way to keep AutoMate running correctly, but now even that has a risk of not working and leaving our production environment in an inoperative state.

What could be the cause of this issue?

Hello Alejandro,

What was going on in the system prior to the disconnect? Were there any updates being done? Any security enhancements being implemented? Any reboots that might have occurred?

Is the database on the same machine as the server? If so, was there any maintenance being done with the database?

Nothing out of the ordinary, no updates or reboots. It had been running fine for a couple of weeks at least, with daily restarts of the AutoMate services.

The database and the agent are both on separate machines, and again nothing out of the ordinary on either box.

I'm trying to understand the potential causes myself. Does the agent connect to the database directly at all? I thought it only communicated with the Execution Server?

In any case, if a timeout occurrs in any communication attempt with any other component, I'd expect the agent to log the problem and retry, not stop working silently and getting stuck in a state where it cannot be stopped... what's up with that behavior?
