Hi, I would like to use “send keystrokes” for a username and password. Is there a way to encrypt and hide/obfuscate the password, the same way it is protected with the “Log on to FTP”? Something a step up from the “disguise initial value” checkbox in a variable so It can’t ever be viewed again. This is intended for an application process that logs in as a particular user account on an emulator session. The actions have to be done through the emulator session window and not sent in a job or script though something like skybot. This is why “send keystrokes” would be ideal if we could secure the login process of it. I did see this post that for the most part is asking the same thing: http://forums.networkautomation.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=50&threadid=11337 But it was for automate 9 and maybe automate 10 has something new? I am on 10.1.0.12, but I see there are newer releases available. If not, how do we go about requesting a feature for a variable option to set as password and obfuscate its value? It seems others want to do this as well. Thanks for your time.

Hi Chris,
Just to be clear are you asking for the keystrokes to be encrypted when sending they keystrokes to a third party application? You can add a password to the task itself which would not allow other users to open the task and view the contents. Right click on the task --> Select Properties --> Select Security

Hi Ricardo, Thanks for the reply.
I would not need the keystrokes encrypted and I do need others to be able to open and edit the job.
What im looking for is the same system that the log on to FTP offers for the password it uses. Others can view and modify the job and see the username of for the FTP step and even reset the password, but they can’t see or retrieve the password. To have a variable that stores the password to be used for a send keystrokes step.
I guess to get around that, anyone could modify the steps to save it to a text file, but the same could be done for the FTP job as far as point it to connect to an FTP site that collects the login information.
That being said, we would still like a way to store a password for this in a way similar to how the FTP process stores them.

Hi Chris, Thank you for the clarification. I have gone ahead and added a enhancement request on your behalf (21030). Thank you for your input. Sorry to revive an older thread, but I found this thread as it describes something I was hoping to be able to do. I see it was added as an enhancement request 21030 but was this ever implemented? I'm currently using Automate 11 but can't seem to find any such options.
