First, let me say that I'm not an expert, so if I use the wrong terminology, please look over me!

I am trying to automate patient registrations for testing purposes. I have created a fixed-length file from which I am pulling data to populate my variables. One variable, var_race, contains the letter W for my first record. The variable var_race holds a single-character value, and if I attempt to insert its value in fields other than the desired field (like an address field), it inserts just fine with no spaces or carriage returns or anything like that.

However, the actual "Race" field that variable is meant to populate will not accept input, either from the variable or through typing, through the Automate terminal emulator. Once I make any attempt to put a value in the field, all fields become locked for editing. I can tab and send {enter}, but there can be no more typing into fields.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what I might do to correct this? We use HostExplorer 14 for the most part and it has no issue in this field. Do I need to give up on Automate's terminal emulator and install HostExplorer?

Thank you for your time!
